The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the World Championship Mathematics Competition for High School students. Chinese students were awarded 113 medals since 1985, and the Chinese team won the champion of IMO 12 times out of 19 times of participation. Our campers will be the first ones from USA to spend summer with Chinese IMO champions. It will be a valuable experience of a lifetime for our children! A lot of fun!

Itinerary

7/05/07
Depart from San Francisco to Beijing, China, a city which will host the 2008 Olympic Games. We will fly over the International Date Line. Meals, drinks and movies are offered during the flight.

7/06/07
Arrive in Beijing at 5:55PM. Warmly welcomed by CCE's Welcome Team and Beijing news reporters. Arrive at the hotel to check in and rest. Attend a Welcome Dinner in the hotel restaurant.

7/07/07
2007 China Math Summer Camp Opening Ceremony. China Mathematical Society president gives a welcome speech and announces the team list and appoints one supervisor for each team.

7/08/07
Our very first visit is Beijing, the heart of China. Beijing has a population of 13 million. Our first stop is Tiananmen Square, the largest square on earth, which covers 123 acres. To the north of the Square, Tiananmen Gate guards the entrance to the Forbidden City. Visiting the Forbidden City is a must. After lunch, we will visit the Temple of Heaven, a sacred place built in 1420, used to pray to the heaven for good harvests. Believe it or not, this huge construction was built over 600 years ago, without a single nail.

7/11/07
An excursion is arranged today after breakfast to one of the seven wonders in the world, the Great Wall. The 3,750-mile-long Great Wall, stretching from east to west in North China, is the only man made structure visible by naked eyes from the moon. After lunch, we will continue our visit to the Ming Tombs, where 13 Emperors and their Empresses of the Ming Dynasty were buried between 1368 and 1644.

Mathematical Forum. Exchange successful stories in the field of Math study. Establish Sino-US Math Club (SMC). Everybody becomes a SMC member, free of annually membership fee.

1st SMC activity: Advanced Math class given by distinguished Math teachers.

7/14/07
2nd SMC activity: A lecture on how to prepare for Math exams.

7/15/07
3rd SMC activity: There will be a semi-formal test simulating the International Mathematical Olympiad.

7/16/07
4th SMC activity: A formal test given by China Mathematical Society, along with Certification Ceremony.

7/17/07
A lecture on Chinese culture and customs. A specially arranged visit to the local ordinary Chinese households, and 2008 Beijing Olympics main stadiums.

7/18/07
We will start to visit China's largest and most cosmopolitan, Shanghai. We will visit the Temple of Jade Buddha which is the most famous temple in the city. The Huxinting Tea House is said to be a very safe and clean place, because it sits in the center of a pond, human beings can cross the zig-zag bridge to take tea in the teahouse, but evil spirits cannot ------ they cannot turn those corners. We will have a night-tour to the famous Bund, and the sleepless Nanjing Road after dinner.

Visit top High Schools (public/private), social event with the local students and math teachers. Visit Shanghai Teenagers’ Palace and local families.

7/20/07
Mathematical Forum. Exchange successful stories with the local students in the field of Math study. Establish Sino-US Math Club (SMC) Shanghai Chapter.

7/21/07
After an early breakfast, we will go to the heavenly city Suzhou. Poets have compared Suzhou to the Heaven and called this water surrounded city the Venice of the East. The whole afternoon will be spent in the Garden of Forest of Lions.

7/22/07
Today we will fly to San Francisco from Shanghai. Our home bound flight will gain one day when crossing the International Date Line, arriving in SFO in the morning in the same date.
