As a host city of our upcoming Summer Camp from the Woodside International School, Beijing will embrace our campers with a huge warm welcome. It would be a great honor and a life-long benefit, if you could get trained in Beijing by a group of university Language Experts! Not only will campers make a great number of new friends in China, but they will also get to show off their standard Chinese to their peers when coming back to the United States.

Itinerary
6/12/07
Depart from San Francisco to Beijing, China, a city which will host the 2008 Olympic Games. We will fly over the International Date Line. Meals, drinks and movies are offered during the flight.
6/13/07
Arrive in Beijing. Warmly welcomed by CCE 's Welcome Team. Arrive at the Beijing Radio & Television University (BRTU) Campus to check in.
6/14/07
Summer Camp Opening Ceremony. BRTU officials will address a welcome speech and announce the team list and divide them into groups. Specially designed daily Chinese Language Classes start from this morning. In the afternoon, we are going to have a Beijing culture adventure to Hutong. Along with the rapid development, many Hutongs which represented the ancient view of Beijing were replaced by skyscrapers. Luckily, there are still a few Hutongs existing right now.

Daily Chinese Language Classes are given in the morning. A tour is arranged in the afternoon.
Beijing has a total population of 13 million. Our first stop is Tiananmen Square, the largest square on earth, which covers 123 acres. To the north of the Square, Tiananmen Gate guards the entrance to the Forbidden City.

Daily Chinese Language Classes are given in the morning. After lunch, we will visit the Temple of Heaven, a sacred place built in 1420, used to pray to the heaven for good harvests. Believe it or not, this huge construction was built over 600 years ago, without a single nail.
6/17/07
An excursion is arranged today after breakfast to one of the seven wonders in the world, the Great Wall. The 3,750-mile-long Great Wall, stretching from east to west in North China, is the only man made structure visible by naked eyes from the moon. After lunch, we will continue our visit to the Ming Tombs, where 13 Emperors and their Empresses of the Ming Dynasty were buried between 1368 and 1644.

Daily Chinese Language Classes are given for the whole day today, making up the classes from yesterday.
6/19/07
We are visiting a famous city of Chengde---four hours away from Beijing by train. Chengde was an imperial summer resort in the Qing Dynasty in the 17th century. Afternoon tours inside the Mountain Resort. Just as the Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses are the key scenic spot in Xian, the Mountain Resort, the largest royal garden in China is the hot place of interest in Chengde. We stay overnight at the Mountain Resort Guest House.

Putuo Zongchengzhi Temple is located to the north of Mountain Resort of Chengde. Built in 1767 imitating the style of the Potala Palace in Tibet, the temple is also named 'little Potala Palace'. 'Putuo Zongchengzhi' is a Tibetan language meaning 'Potala Palace' in Chinese. After lunch we are going to Luoyang by train via Beijing, and we have hard sleepers on the train from Beijing to Luoyang.

We arrive in Luoyang in the early morning. We will visit the well-known Longmen Grotto and visit the White Horse Temple in the afternoon.
6/22/07
Excursion to the world-class attraction Shaolin Temple. Shaolin Temple is one of the most famous temples in China because of its long history and its role in Chinese Buddhism. It is situated in the Songshan Mountain, which is 8 miles of Dengfeng and about 75 miles of Luoyang. The Shaolin Temple has many legends and mysteries surround it. The origin of martial arts, the origin of Kung Fu surrounds the vague mysteries of the Shaolin Temple and its monks. We will stay in a hotel near the temple tonight.

Shaolin Temple was established in 495 during the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534). We will spend most of the day here until we must return to Luoyang in the afternoon.

Train to Xian in the morning on soft seats. Xian is one of the birthplaces of the ancient civilization in the Yellow River Basin area of the country. During the 3,100 years’ development, 13 dynasties such as Western Zhou (11th century BC - 771 BC), Qin (221 BC - 206 BC), Western Han (206 BC - 24 AD) and Tang (618 - 907) placed their capitals here. Xian enjoys a equal fame with Athens, Cairo, and Rome as one of the four major ancient civilization capitals.

We are going to visit: the Museum of Terra Cotta Warriors, which is praised as 'the 8th wonder of the world'; the City Wall of the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644), which is the largest and most intact Ming Dynasty castle in the world.
6/26/07
We will visit: Big Wild Goose Pagoda which was built in 652 during the reign of Emperor Gaozong of the Tang Dynasty (618-907). It functioned to collect Buddhist materials that were taken from India by the hierarch Xuanzang. We will also visit the 3,000 year old Banpo Village Remains from the Neolithic Age (approximately from 8000 BC to 5000 BC), and the Forest of Stone Steles that holds 3,000 stone steles of different periods from the Han Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty.
After dinner, we will take a night train to Beijing on hard sleepers.
6/27/07
This morning we arrive in Beijing. We will visit the world’s largest garden---Summer Palace. After lunch, we head to the airport for our flight to San Francisco. Our home bound flight will gain one day when crossing the International Date Line, arriving in SFO in the morning the same date.
Special Insurance program:
The insurance is provided by the well known travel insurance company, Travelex. The campers who pay the total fee 60 days prior to the departure date will have this insurance program for free. From the time when the campers leave the United States, every moment of their stay in China will be included in the insurance. The program contains 7 items which range from the $50,000 medical fee to the compensation of the loss of luggage.
